No, I’m afraid not, by selling your house you are making yourself voluntarily homeless. the only way for them to rehouse you is if you let the house be repossessed, but then it is likely to sell for less than you might sell it for.

Get yourself off to your Local Housing Advice Centre and/or CAB.

go to the council and see what they say….i had a similar situation to you…..i gave up my home voluntarily….like you i had good reason to…..the council put me into temporary bed and breakfast with my 3 kids, we were there for 3 weeks and then given a temporary flat which was lovely and we stayed there for 18 months and now i have my own council house…..give it a go….go see a housing officer and tell them the situation…..i think they have to put you in b&b, and then you’ll start the route that i went….good luck to you all at this difficult time x

You may find the council will simply re-home you in a B & B (and not necessarily the nicest!) - they could transfer you to the local housing association where obviously the rents will vary a great deal.
Some are fortunate to get a council house sooner than most but it really depends on where you live and the particular needs of others in that area.

It will depend on your area. In sme you could have a house within a few weeks, others it could be years or never. You will get housed by the council but it will be in a B&B or a hostel. Most have drug dealers and the like in them so be prepared.
Their advise will be to find private rented accomodation. I would advise this too. If your financial situation is great at least they will help with the rent.

I am sorry to hear of your problems. As you and your partner have agreed to split you can sell you house to one of the ‘Sell and rent back’ companies, but watchout that you get as near to the market price as possible. The best thing is is that you don’t have to move out - you can rent your current house.
I can thoroughly recommend Sell to Stay as a company that will give you 80% of the market value of your house and rent it back to you at a competitive rate. After 3 years of rental they will give you a 50% refund on the rent that you have paid which you can put towards a deposit on a mortgage to buy a new home, or buy back your old home. Very flexible indeed!!
Give then a look at
Best of luck Bigpathome.

The council have a duty to house homeless people, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH DEPENDANTS (eg children). But if you have money left over from the sale of your house, they may expect you to use those savings instead (by renting). Check the council website for their housing policy, or better still visit them and discuss your situation. Good luck anyway.

As a Council worker, for my local authority, I can advise you.If you can prove that your mortgage repayments could not be met, due to financial difficulties, the housing authorty have a moral obligation to house you if you have dependant children under 18 years of age.
